Wipecast #15 – every little thing

Dear ladies and gentlemen !
It’s high time for rebranding !
Such interesting things happen sometimes, even when you’re expecting nothing. Without any help, the new podcast appeared. It’s been made of the same ingredients as always, but it’s a bit different … A traditional, high quality wipecast – what can be better ? Originally it was recorded for Christmas and includes tunes I have enjoyed no end in the second part of 2011. I have played them by the score, again and again. I really can call it “strictly the best” in my opinion. But not only.
Among these songs there are the ones I truly love. Mainly, this is the music I can hold on to. And I can’t let you neglect it. Why ? I’ve been sorted these tracks out in accordance with my own taste for so long. I guess it’s not the music everyone might like, but I’m sure these excursions named wipecasts reflect my vision towards modern pop. Spend some time with them !
Thanx to all of you ! (you know who you are)

with a help of my friends – thank you
Start this spring with the new wipecast volume !
Good mood is what you shouldn’t forget these days. That’s why the tunes we’ve chosen for the mix were saturated with the sun and the fresh air.
Volume 14 was recorded almost a year ago, but it has become available only by now ! Well, better late than earlier. You’re welcome !
It consists mainly of two styles – so-called bass music founded in the UK, and dreamy chillwave from the United States and Canada. We begin with an optimistic remix of Johnny Cash, who’s known as a country maitre, then we drift a bit in modern groovy electronica. After that people like Guido, Mount Kimbie and incredibly talented singer-songwriter Jamie Woon show us who’s who in the United Kingdom’s actual tendences. The last album made by the experimental indie Stateless band still attract us.
Then the mood changes again and we dive into nu-skool dreampop which is called chillwave. This style is famous for the trandsetter Ernest Green aka Washed Out with his debut album which he’s been preparing for two years and younger yet talented producers like Com Truise and Hard Mix. We guess that term “synth-wave” is more relevant for their stuff.
It’s not surprised that the majority of tunes in the mix were released in 2011 (because it’s the 2011 podcast) – for example, Radiohead‘s last, the shortest and probably the most contradictory album, and the 7th – instrumental – LP by the America’s Blue Sky Black Death electronic duo. The curious hybrid of post-dubstep, ambient and etherial Burial-alike vocals is given by the english trio Swarms – and it’s hot ! Julio Bashmore‘s stuff is more danceable, but still good. He’s into something between house and dubstep with a hint of Detroit, and sometimes can try some downtempo. The final track is presented by the modern shoegaze duo called The Big Pink. This is an unforgettable ballad from their debut long-player released by the legendary 4AD label.

Wipecat #13 – dreams come, dreams go
waved away by greenartist
chillwave dreampop indie shoegaze coldwave garage
- Back together again !
Must tell you it’s the first podcast since november of 2010. It’s a pity, but here’s the compensation for long silence. After 6 months I’m proudly presenting you wipecast #13 called “dreams come, dreams go” …
The podcast hasn’t been named occasionally: its subtitle signifies my interest to dreampop music and its modern varieties. Almost all these artists are from New World, and it’s the likes of Warm Ghost, Balam Acab, Cortney Tidwell and Atlas Sound. Their music is often tagged as “chillwave“, “cold wave” or “witch house” (the latter term has nothing to do with house music familiar to us). However, in the mix you can find a wide range of electronic music from future garage of Floating Points and Pariah to our fellow countrymen EU (Ёлочные Игрушки) and much talked-of british band The xx with their oh so simple but pleasant melodies. An interesting and even surprising interpretation of Caribou‘s “Sun” is given by a young artist called Altrice who has reworked all the tracks from the “Swim” LP and has issued them all in his own album “Stem”.
We could not pass by the new full-lenght album from UK’s White Lies, majestic synth-pop delivered by Brooklyn-based Light Asylum duo, and honeysweet “hypnagogic pop” by Ariel Pink and Toro y Moi (once again, US guys). We hope you won’t overlook these almost radio-friendly hip-hop takes made by Fake Four Records artists Ron Contour and Deadpan Darling, blues-alike passages of Fin Greenall (known as Fink as well as Sideshow) and Damon Aaron music’s superfine tissue. This is his lullaby tune we decided to be last in the mix (for the second time !)
Thanx for support !

Wipecast # 12 Special – Ideal Moment
I guess in our music tastes we’ve all moved away from the academic sounding, but still professional and gifted composers move classic school to the future and make it adsorb the spirit of now and give us fresh swirls of melodies and moods.
It’s more than six months ago that the idea of creating a modern classics compilation has been born, and among our friends a man was found who doesn’t only listen to such music, but also collects it on vinyl.
Even if you’re not into academic music you will surely feel the modernism’s breath all over the compilation.
Classic music gives us lessons of harmony and the sense of melody, and considering our total estrangement from the beautiful in favour of the mass and pop culture such compilations play a part of aesthetic presents.
The only thing that’s left is to wish you an enjoyable listening, at least for your cultural benefication and the extension of your perception.
I recommend to listen to the issue at the very least two times, just because during the second listening the music’s effect increases, and after the third listening the mix tends to live in your mp3-player for a long time.
